New doors being opened!

Thu Jun 25, 2009, 7:55 AM
Well it's back to school already; and new opportunities have appeared! I got a job offer at school to be a student work study being the Graphic Design head chairs teacher assistant. It sounds like the job is mine, but I will be crossing my fingers until it's written in stone! I also sat down with the guys from the band and discussed some things with them:

Q: Why do you guys enjoy working with me and continue to come to me for design purposes?

A: Your work and quality is awesome; and your personality is very friendly. We like the fact that when we call you we don't feel like we're on the phone with the president; your personality is perfect for us when it comes to working together and talking business.

Q: How do you feel about compensation?

A: We're totally fine with it, but we feel that unless your working on location an hourly rate is unideal.

I was very pleased with their responses from all of the topic we discussed. I completely agree with their point on compensation; i'm just glad and feel foolish for being so nervous about asking about compensation! They also brought me some job opportunities, and also notified me that I would start working with their Japan promoter, Jen, on Japan Promotion related projects! So i will eventually have work i've done being seen in Japan! Not to mention what other countries are already on this list and are soon to be added!

It's going to be a great summer, loaded with very awesome opportunities. And I couldn't be more excited!

End of Term 2

Fri Jun 12, 2009, 5:03 AM
So it's the end of term 2 at school. Another 2 classes out of the way. Desktop Publishing 1 was a lot better then i expected it to; since I never got along with Indesign I was dreading this class. I actually really enjoy working in Indesign more then I expected too. My second project for it was the Koffin Kats CD cover which is posted in my deviations. I'm prepping my final project which was a furniture catalog spread right now to be uploaded. Comments on it would be really nice. The critique went really well for it so I am pleased. I've come a long way since the beginning and I am more then ready for Digital Pre-Press and Desktop Publishing 2; which I start in a week from Tuesday :D. Everyone enjoy their weekend!!! Go Red Wings!!!

Interfaces 2009!

Mon Jun 8, 2009, 9:22 AM
Interfaces was awesome! The speakers were great and I learned a lot from them. Tim Smith of Skidmore presentation on how to develop a personal brand for yourself was very informative yet it made me realize how tricky and difficult making your own brand can be. Cosmin Ghiurau was very informative on how to properly promote and brand yourself and your work online. And the other speakers shared their experiences, high, lows, and how rough the Graphic Design industry can be. I didn't get my portfolio reviewed by many guests; I really wanted to see every speaker I could and learn as much as possible. I was hoping to sit down with Tim and see what he had to say about my work, but I didn't get the chance too. However, the reviews I did get were helpful. The first review was pretty much the person telling me/ agreeing with all of the positive things about my work....which wasn't to helpful on improving my portfolio I don't think. I know whats good about my work, after all I created it. But I also got my stuff reviewed by Peter Schade and Meredith Morrison was the most affective. They gave me positive feedback and great points in constructive criticism. I'm not going to back into my work and try to make the changes they pointed out that would've been better; instead I'm going to use their advice in future designs.

All-in-all it was a great turn out, and I learned a great deal. Thanks to all of the speakers that took the time out of their day to come and speak to us! I hope to see them all again in the future!
